Massey Ferguson 8.X.18 – HITCH: Rear Hitch Raise/Lower Rocker Switch Signal Issue
Issue description
The controller is receiving an incorrect signal from component X119, which is the main rear linkage lifting/lowering switch located in the cab. This means the switch is sending an out-of-range, missing, or implausible electrical signal when the operator attempts to raise or lower the 3-point hitch.

Check the cause
Verify system voltage is between 11 V and 16 V, as voltage outside this range will cause the Autotronic controller to log linkage errors.
Inspect the wiring harness and the multi-pin connector at the X119 cab rocker switch for open circuits, short circuits to +12V, short circuits to earth, or corrosion.
Check the external fender-mounted linkage switches (X87 on the right-hand fender and X97 on the left-hand fender) for water ingress or shorts, which can send conflicting signals mimicking a main switch failure.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery
This protects the Autotronic controller.
Locate the X119 rear linkage rocker switch
Find the switch on the side console or armrest.
Remove the faulty switch
Carefully unclip and remove the faulty switch from the console panel.
Disconnect the electrical harness
Disconnect the harness from the back of the switch, ensuring the connector pins are clean.
Install the new switch
Plug the wiring harness into the new OEM rocker switch and snap it back into the console.
Reconnect the battery and turn on the ignition
Clear stored error codes
Clear the stored error codes from the tractor's diagnostic display memory.
Test the hitch operation
Confirm the signal issue is resolved. Note: Depending on the tractor series, a hitch calibration sequence may be required after replacing linkage control components.
