Massey Ferguson 8.X.1B – Rear Hitch Module (HITCH): Incorrect signal voltage from the linkage lifting/lowering switch on the left-hand fender

The controller is receiving a signal that is out of the expected voltage range from the left-hand fender linkage lifting/lowering switch (X97), which typically points to an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to +12V, or a failed internal resistor inside the switch itself.

   Visually inspect the left-hand rear mud guard switch (X97) for physical damage, cracked rubber boots, or buttons that are physically stuck due to dirt or debris.

   Reach under the fender and disconnect the switch harness to inspect the pins for corrosion, water ingress, or pushed-out terminals.

   Using a multimeter, verify that the switch is receiving the correct reference voltage from the Autotronic controller and check the signal wire for continuity back to the main harness under the cab/seat.

   Bench test the switch for proper continuity when the 'Up' and 'Down' buttons are depressed. If the switch reads as an open circuit when pressed, it has failed internally.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any short circuits during repair.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the X97 linkage switch on the left rear fender. Depending on the model, you may need to remove a protective plastic bezel or mud guard extension panel to access the rear of the switch.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the bottom of the switch.

   Remove

   Squeeze the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body (or remove the retaining screws, depending on the exact switch style) and push the switch up and out of the fender mounting hole.

   Install

   Snap the new OEM switch into the fender housing and plug in the electrical connector. Ensure the weather-tight seal clicks firmly into place.

   Test & Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition on. Clear any stored fault codes. Note: On many Massey Ferguson models, the fender switches will not operate until you perform an activation sequence (e.g., pressing the fender button up, down, up, down, and then holding up) to hand over control from the cab to the fender. Verify the 3-point hitch raises and lowers smoothly.
