8.X.1C

Massey Ferguson 8.X.1C – HITCH (Rear Hitch Module / EHR - Electronic Hitch Control): Rear Hitch Raise/Lower Rocker Switch Signal Issue

Issue description

The controller is detecting an invalid, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal from the rocker switch used to manually raise or lower the rear 3-point hitch. This typically points to a failed switch, a wiring short/open circuit, or a disconnected harness.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the rear hitch raise/lower rocker switch on the armrest/console for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing it from returning to the neutral position.

  2. Access the back of the switch and inspect the electrical connector for loose pins, corrosion, or moisture.

  3. Verify that the switch is receiving 12V (DC) power.

  4. Test the 3-position (On/Off/On) switch for continuity in both the 'Raise' and 'Lower' positions. If the switch does not close the circuit when pressed, it has failed internally.

  5. Trace the wiring harness from the switch to the HITCH module to ensure there are no pinched wires, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panel on the right-hand control console or armrest where the rear hitch rocker switch is mounted.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the back of the faulty rocker switch.

  4. Remove

Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it upward through the console panel to remove it.

  5. Install New Part

Snap the new OEM rocker switch into the panel until the retaining tabs click into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the wiring harness connector into the new switch, ensuring it seats fully and locks.

  7. Reassemble

    Reinstall the console trim panel.

  8. Test

Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and test the rear hitch raise and lower functions.

  9. Clear Codes

If the fault code remains on the dash, use a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive code from the HITCH module memory.
