Massey Ferguson 8.X.31 – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Rear Hitch Right Draft Pin (HITCH)

The signal coming from the right-side draft pin sensor is missing, erratic, or out of the expected voltage range, which disables or impairs the automatic draft control functions.

   Visually inspect the rectangular 3-pin electrical connector at the right draft pin for dirt, moisture, corrosion, or broken wires.

   Perform a swap test by swapping the electrical connections between the left and right draft pins. If the fault code changes to 08.01.32, the sensor has failed. If it remains 08.01.31, the issue is in the wiring harness or HITCH controller.

   Check for mechanical binding to ensure the lower link arm is not seized, which can put unnatural static stress on the internal strain gauges.

   Relieve Pressure

   Lower the three-point hitch completely to the ground or rest the link arms on secure blocks to remove all weight and tension from the lower link arms.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts and reset the HITCH module.

   Disconnect Sensor

   Unplug the wiring harness connector from the faulty right draft pin.

   Remove the Pin

   Remove the retaining bolt or locking bracket that secures the draft pin to the tractor chassis. Slide or carefully tap the old draft pin out of the housing.

   Clean the Bore

   Thoroughly clean the mounting bore of any rust, dirt, or old grease to ensure the new sensor seats perfectly without binding.

   Install New Sensor

   Insert the new draft pin sensor. Ensure the alignment flat/notch is positioned correctly according to the retaining bracket so the internal strain gauges are oriented in the correct direction to measure draft force.

   Reassembly

   Reinstall the retaining hardware and plug the electrical connector back in.

   Calibration

   Reconnect the battery. You will likely need to perform a rear hitch calibration via the tractor's terminal/dashboard to teach the EHR module the "zero" load value of the new sensor.
