Massey Ferguson 8.X.60 – HITCH module: Rear Linkage Lower Solenoid Open Circuit (HITCH)
Issue description
The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit that operates the solenoid valve responsible for lowering the rear 3-point hitch. An "open circuit" typically points to a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, or a burned-out internal coil within the solenoid itself.

Check the cause
Locate the rear linkage hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor. Inspect the electrical connector plugged into the 'Lower' solenoid for corrosion, dirt, or being physically disconnected.
Trace the wiring harness from the lower solenoid back toward the Rear Hitch Module. Look for chafed wires, pinch points, or breaks that would cause an open circuit.
Unplug the connector and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the solenoid coil. A healthy EHR solenoid typically draws 2–3 Amps; if the multimeter reads infinite resistance (OL), the coil has an internal break and must be replaced.
Turn the key ON and probe the harness-side connector to ensure the HITCH module is sending the appropriate voltage signal when a 'lower' command is initiated from the cab or mudguard switches.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Access the Valve Block
Locate the rear hitch control valve assembly. Clean the area around the solenoids to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the faulty lower solenoid.
Remove the Coil
If the coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut or clip at the end of the solenoid valve stem. Slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge (you usually do not need to open the hydraulic circuit to replace just the coil).
Install New Part
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/clip.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring it clicks and locks securely.
Clear Codes & Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use a compatible diagnostic tool (or the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu) to clear the 8.X.60 fault code. Test the rear linkage by raising and lowering it to confirm the repair.
