8.X.A0

Massey Ferguson 8.X.A0 – Rear Hitch Module: The linkage controller has lost its parameters

Issue description

Internal memory or software issue where the controller has forgotten its operational limits (high/low stops) and calibration data, preventing the electronic draft control (EDC) or rear hitch from functioning correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Check for companion codes (e.g., 8.X.A1, 8.X.B4, 8.X.B6) that might explain why the calibration was dropped

  2. Attempt to wake up the hitch by cycling the hitch rocker switch off and on, or by pressing the master hitch shut-down button (if equipped) and restarting the tractor

  3. Inspect the rockshaft potentiometer (physical position sensor) on the rear rockshaft for misadjustment, contamination, or a bad wiring gap

Repair steps

  1. Perform a Hitch Calibration

Enter the hitch calibration mode via the tractor's display/console. Follow the on-screen prompts to define the high and low stops of the linkage. Set the in-cab potentiometers to specific positions and press the hitch switch multiple times to measure solenoid valve currents and sensor signals.

  2. Evaluate Calibration Results

If the screen displays 'Cal Failure,' the controller is in halt mode. Cycle the key switch off and on to retry.

  3. Module Replacement

If the calibration procedure fails repeatedly, or if the 8.X.A0 code returns immediately after a key cycle (indicating the internal ROM/memory is physically failing to retain data), the Rear Hitch Module must be replaced.

  4. Reprogramming

Use the Massey Ferguson Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) and CANBOX (connected to the diagnostic plug under the dashboard) to program the new module, set the label codes, and perform a final linkage calibration.
