Massey Ferguson 94.16 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fuel Filter Pressure Sensor High Pressure

Fuel main filter inlet pressure ABOVE NORMAL. The system has detected that the fuel pressure entering the main fuel filter is moderately higher than the acceptable operating range. This condition is most commonly caused by a restriction after the sensor, such as a severely clogged fuel filter, which causes the low-pressure fuel supply to back up and build excess pressure at the inlet. It can also be triggered by a faulty sensor sending an incorrect high-voltage signal.

   Inspect the Fuel Filters: Check the main fuel filter and water separator/pre-filter for severe clogging, dirt, or fuel gelling, as high inlet pressure usually indicates a blockage.

   Inspect Fuel Lines: Check the low-pressure fuel lines between the lift pump and the filter housing for kinks, pinched hoses, or blockages that could restrict flow.

   Check the Wiring Harness: Inspect the wiring and connector at the fuel filter pressure sensor for corrosion, damaged pins, or a short circuit to a power source that could cause the ECU to read a falsely high voltage.

   Test the Sensor: Use a multimeter to verify the sensor's output voltage. If the voltage remains out of range even when the engine is off and pressure is relieved, the sensor has likely failed internally.

   Prepare machine for service

   Turn off the engine, ensure the machine is safely parked, and allow the engine to cool.

   Relieve fuel pressure

   Relieve any residual fuel pressure in the low-pressure fuel system.

   Replace the Fuel Filters

   Remove and replace the main fuel filter and the water separator. (Note: This is the primary fix for this code, as a clogged filter is the most frequent culprit).

   Repair wiring harness

   If the wiring harness was found to be damaged during diagnostics, repair or replace the affected pigtail/connector.

   Remove old pressure sensor

   If filter replacement does not resolve the issue and the sensor tested faulty, unscrew the old fuel filter pressure sensor from the fuel filter housing.

   Install new pressure sensor

   Install the new OEM pressure sensor and tighten it to the manufacturer's torque specifications.

   Prime and bleed fuel system

   Prime and bleed the fuel system to remove any trapped air.

   Check for leaks

   Start the engine and check the filter housing for any fuel leaks.

   Clear fault code

   Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 000094.16 fault code from the ECU.
