E94.31

Massey Ferguson E94.31 – ECU: Fuel Filter Pressure Sensor Signal Outside Normal Range

Issue description

The system detects Low Fuel Pressure. The two most common underlying conditions for this pressure drop are dirty/clogged fuel filters or thick/gelled fuel in cold weather.

Applies to these machines

  • 7616
  • 5612
  • 7622
  • Interim Tier 4 (2012-2015)
  • 7614

  • 5712SL
  • 5713SL
  • 7614 through 7626
  • 7714 through 7726S

Check the cause

  1. If operating in severe cold weather, inspect the fuel for gelling or thickening (gelled fuel cause)

  2. Inspect the primary and secondary fuel filters for heavy contamination, water, or sludge (clogged filter cause)

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the Fuel Filter Pressure Sensor for damage, corrosion, or loose connections (sensor/wiring fault cause)

Repair steps

  1. Treat the Fuel (If Cold Weather)

If fuel gelling is suspected, add a high-quality diesel anti-gel treatment to the fuel tank and allow it to circulate.

  2. Replace Fuel Filters

Place a drain pan under the fuel filter housing. Remove the spin-on main filter and pre-filter. Clean the filter housing mating surfaces. Lubricate the new O-rings/gaskets with clean diesel fuel. Install the new 10-micron pre-filter and 5-micron main filter. Reinstall the water sensor into the new pre-filter using a new gasket.

  3. Bleed the Fuel System

Turn the key to the ON position to allow the electric lift pump to prime the system and purge air, or use the manual primer pump (depending on the specific tractor model).

  4. Clear Codes and Test

Start the tractor and check if the E94.31 code clears.

  5. Replace Sensor (If Code Persists)

If the filters are new, the fuel is flowing freely, and the code remains active, the Fuel Filter Pressure Sensor itself has likely failed and must be replaced.
