Massey Ferguson A.10.23 – Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 1 Issue
Issue description
Indicates a malfunction in the first external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem on the hydraulic valve, a failure of the valve's actuator, or an issue with the spool position sensor value.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 1 for corroded pins, loose connectors, or damaged wires
Verify that there is no CAN Bus communication loss between the dash/main ECU and the mid-mount/rear valve module
Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to read the live 'Spool Position Sensor Value' to check if the value is erratic or out of range while the valve is stationary
Repair steps
Safety First
Relieve all hydraulic system pressure before servicing the valves.
Inspect & Clean
Disconnect the electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 1. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and reconnect. Clear the code using a diagnostic tool to see if the fault returns.
Component Replacement
If the wiring is intact and the code persists, the electronic actuator head or the spool position sensor on Valve 1 is faulty. Depending on the specific valve block fitted, you will need to unbolt and replace the External Hydraulic Valve Actuator or the entire External Hydraulic Valve 1 Group assembly.
Calibration
After installing a new valve or actuator, use the tractor's diagnostic software to calibrate the new spool position sensor so the ECU learns its neutral, fully open, and fully closed positions.
