A.10.27

Massey Ferguson A.10.27 – Vehicle Control Module (VCM) / Hydraulic ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 1 Issue

Issue description

The tractor's diagnostic system has detected a malfunction in the first rear remote hydraulic spool valve. The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem (such as a voltage drop or open circuit to the valve's solenoid), a failed solenoid coil, or a mechanically sticking/jammed spool valve caused by contaminated hydraulic fluid or worn internal seals.

Check the cause

  1. Check the hydraulic/transmission fluid level and condition. Inspect the hydraulic filter for blockages, as dirty or contaminated oil is a leading cause of sticking valves.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the External Hydraulic Valve 1 solenoid for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires.

  3. Use a multimeter to test the voltage reaching the solenoid and check the resistance of the solenoid coil itself to ensure it hasn't shorted out or failed.

  4. Check the remote couplers for physical damage or blockages. Listen for the solenoid 'clicking' when actuated to determine if the spool is mechanically jammed.

Repair steps

  1. Park and secure the tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, and turn off the engine.

  2. Relieve hydraulic pressure

Actuate the hydraulic remote levers/buttons to relieve all residual pressure in the hydraulic system.

  3. Clean the valve block

Thoroughly clean the exterior of the rear remote valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  4. Disconnect the wiring harness

Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the External Hydraulic Valve 1 solenoid.

  5. Replace the solenoid coil (if faulty)

If the solenoid is faulty: Unbolt and replace the solenoid coil, clean the electrical contacts, and reconnect.

  6. Remove the spool valve section (if sticking or leaking)

If the valve is sticking or leaking: Unbolt the specific spool valve section from the main hydraulic block (place a catch pan underneath to catch draining fluid).

  7. Inspect the spool valve

Move the valve to a clean workbench. Disassemble the spool valve and inspect the spool and bore for scoring, wear, or debris.

  8. Install new seals

Remove the old seals and install a new spool valve repair kit (O-rings and backup rings). Lubricate the new seals with clean hydraulic fluid prior to assembly.

  9. Reassemble and install the valve

Reassemble the valve and bolt it back onto the tractor's valve block, torquing the bolts to OEM specifications.

  10. Reconnect the electrical harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  11. Top up fluid and replace filter

Top up the hydraulic fluid with OEM-spec UTTO fluid (e.g., 10W40) and replace the hydraulic filter if the fluid was contaminated.

  12. Bleed air and check for leaks

Start the tractor, cycle the remote valve several times to bleed air from the system, and check for leaks.

  13. Clear the fault code

Connect a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the A.10.27 fault code from the ECU.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Spool Valve Repair Kit / Seal Kit

    3176423M91

Common Massey Ferguson spool valve repair kit, though exact fitment can vary depending on whether the tractor uses a Danfoss or Bosch valve block. Always verify with your specific VIN/Serial.

  • External Hydraulic Valve Solenoid Coil

Specific part number depends on the exact valve block manufacturer for your model year.

  • Hydraulic / Transmission Filter

Replace if fluid contamination caused the valve to stick.

  • UTTO Hydraulic Fluid

Universal Tractor Transmission Oil, required for top-up.
