A.11.23

Massey Ferguson A.11.23 – Mid Mount Valve Module / Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 1 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the first external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve) circuit. The underlying condition is typically caused by a loss of communication between the tractor's dash and the valve module, an out-of-range spool position sensor value, or a loss of valve calibration.

Check the cause

  1. Check for related diagnostic codes such as 0B.00.17 through 0B.00.21 (Issue With Spool Position Sensor Value) or 0B.00.22 through 0B.00.24 (Issue With Calibration of Valves)

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Dash and the Mid Mount Valve Module for corrosion, moisture ingress, or loose pins

  3. Monitor the spool position sensor value via the tractor's diagnostic terminal to see if it registers movement when the valve is commanded

  4. Attempt a hydraulic valve calibration procedure through the tractor's onboard terminal or a compatible diagnostic tool

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Ensure the tractor is turned off, the implement is lowered, and all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the system.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Locate the external hydraulic valve block (usually at the rear or mid-mount, depending on the tractor's configuration). Identify Valve Slice #1.

  3. Replace the Solenoid/Sensor

Remove the retaining screws holding the solenoid coil and spool position sensor (potentiometer) to the valve body. Install the new sensor/coil assembly.

  4. Inspect the Spool Valve

If the sensor is not the issue, the internal spool may be sticking. Remove the spool valve slice, inspect for scored metal or damaged O-rings, and replace the entire slice if internal damage is found.

  5. Reassemble and Calibrate

Reinstall the components, torque to OEM specifications, and reconnect the wiring harness.

  6. Final Calibration

Power on the tractor, clear the stored A.11.23 fault code, and run the mandatory electro-hydraulic spool valve calibration procedure to marry the new sensor/valve to the ECU.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Spool Valve Assembly (Slice)

    3796029M3

Common replacement spool valve for electro-hydraulic MF models

  • Solenoid Coil

    64837
  • Spool Position Sensor / Potentiometer

Generic name: Hydraulic Valve Position Sensor / Axle Direction Sensor - often sold as part of the solenoid/sensor kit

  • Hydraulic Valve Repair/Seal Kit

    3176423M91

Used for rebuilding the seals on the valve block if the slice itself is mechanically sound
