A.13.11

Massey Ferguson A.13.11 – TECU / Autotronic 5 TECU: External Hydraulic Valve 1 Issue

Issue description

The system has detected a fault in the first rear remote hydraulic spool valve. This is usually caused by an electrical circuit problem (open circuit, short to ground, or short to power in the solenoid), an implausible spool position sensor value, a missing CAN message, or a mechanical issue where the spool is physically stuck and cannot return to its neutral position.

Check the cause

  1. Verify battery voltage and ground integrity, as low voltage during cranking or weak charging can trigger false hydraulic valve codes

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 1 (located at the rear remote block) for rub points, broken wires, or corrosion

  3. Test the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter to check for an open circuit or a short to ground

  4. Use a diagnostic scanner to check the spool position sensor value for implausible readings or a 'spool not in neutral' status

  5. Manually check if the valve spool is physically stuck due to debris or failed detents

Repair steps

  1. Power down tractor

Power down the tractor and engage the battery isolator.

  2. Clean valve block area

Thoroughly clean the rear external hydraulic valve block area to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Inspect and repair wiring

Disconnect the electrical connector to Spool Valve 1. If the connector or wiring is damaged, repair the harness.

  4. Replace solenoid

If the solenoid coil fails the resistance test, remove the retaining nut and replace the hydraulic valve solenoid.

  5. Replace valve section

If the spool is mechanically jammed, the detents have failed, or the internal position sensor has failed, the valve section must be replaced.

  6. Install replacement valve

To replace the valve, unbolt the hydraulic lines and the tie-rods holding the valve stack together. Remove Valve 1 and install the replacement valve slice with new O-rings/seals.

  7. Torque components

Torque the hydraulic unions and tie-rods to the manufacturer's specifications.

  8. Restore power

Reconnect the electrical harness and restore battery power.

  9. Perform valve calibration

Connect a diagnostic tool to perform a valve calibration. You must assign the new spool valve its position on the CAN bus and calibrate the upper stop, lower stop, and neutral positions.
