A.13.21

Massey Ferguson A.13.21 – Implement/Hydraulic ECU or Main Vehicle ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 1 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction or communication failure with the first rear remote hydraulic valve (spool valve). Related codes in this subsystem often point to issues with the spool position sensor value or signal voltage irregularities.

Check the cause

  1. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to retrieve exact DTCs and look for accompanying codes (like 0A.02.36 or M17/M19/M21) isolating signal voltage or sensor values

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors leading to External Hydraulic Valve 1 for corrosion, loose pins, or damaged wires

  3. Test the spool position sensor on Valve 1 for proper resistance and voltage feedback

  4. Verify that the tractor's hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and free of contamination, which can cause the mechanical spool to stick

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and actuate the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  3. Remove Connections

Locate External Hydraulic Valve 1 at the rear remote valve stack. Disconnect the electrical harness connectors from the valve's solenoids and position sensors.

  4. Disconnect Lines

Carefully disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to the valve. Cap the lines immediately to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  5. Remove the Valve

Unbolt the faulty spool valve from the hydraulic valve block/stack.

  6. Install the New Valve

Mount the replacement spool valve and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Reconnect

Reattach the hydraulic lines and plug in the electrical connectors.

  8. Refill and Bleed

Reconnect the battery, top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost, and start the tractor. Cycle the remote valve several times to bleed air from the system.

  9. Clear Codes

Use the diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.13.21 code and verify that it does not return during operation.
