Massey Ferguson A.13.26 – Tractor Management System / Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 1 Issue

Issue description

This indicates a malfunction associated with the first rear remote hydraulic spool valve. The underlying condition is typically an electrical fault (such as a connection problem, short, or open circuit on the valve's solenoid), a failure of the spool position sensor, or a mechanical sticking issue preventing the valve from responding correctly to the controller's commands.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Dark, burnt, or milky fluid (water contamination) can cause valves to stick. Ensure the hydraulic filter is not blocked.

  2. Inspect External Valve 1 (usually the first slice on the rear remote valve block) for external leaks, damaged quick couplers, or blown seals.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connector going to the External Hydraulic Valve 1 solenoid and spool position sensor. Look for corrosion, pinched wires, or loose pins.

  4. If the valve actuates but is weak, test the system pressure with a hydraulic gauge at the remote coupler to rule out a failing hydraulic pump or a weak relief valve.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize

    Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/joystick to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Disconnect Electronics

    Unplug the electrical harness connectors from the External Hydraulic Valve 1 solenoid and position sensor.

  4. Remove the Valve

    Remove the retaining bolts securing the #1 spool valve slice to the main hydraulic block. Carefully separate the valve section.

  5. Replace Components

    Depending on the exact diagnosis, replace the faulty spool position sensor, the solenoid, or the entire valve slice.

  6. Reassemble

    Install the new components using fresh O-rings and seals (never reuse old O-rings as this will cause leaks). Torque the retaining bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Refill and Bleed

    Top up the hydraulic fluid with OEM-approved UTTO. Start the tractor and operate the valve to bleed air from the system.

  8. Clear Codes

    Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic interface tool to clear the 0A.13.26 DTC from the system memory.
