A.1X.12

Massey Ferguson A.1X.12 – Autotronic / Tractor Management System: External Hydraulic Valve 1 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the electrohydraulic selective control valve (SCV) number 1. The system has detected an electrical or mechanical anomaly, such as a connection problem on the hydraulic valve, an issue with the spool position sensor value, or the valve spool failing to return to the neutral position.

Check the cause

  1. Check Valve LED Indicators: Inspect the LED lights on the electronic valves at the rear of the tractor. They should be solid red when receiving power and turn green when receiving an input command to move. If the LED on Valve 1 is flashing, it confirms a localized fault on that specific valve.

  2. Flash Code Diagnosis: The flashing LED on the valve will output a blink code. The first flash indicates the valve number, the second flash is the first error digit, and the third flash is the second error digit.

  3. Linkage & Spool Position: Verify the position of the external linkage. Ensure the valves are physically returning to the center (neutral) position. A stuck spool will trigger position sensor errors.

  4. Autotronic Diagnostic Screen: Turn the ignition key on, push the clutch in and release it to clear the right screen, then hold down the up arrow key to access the Autotronic diagnostic menu. Check the DC and TC error codes to see if a 'no valve detected' (e.g., 1-3-3 / E10) communication error is present.

  5. Wiring & Connectors: Inspect the 4-pin connector on the Rexroth electric spool slice for corrosion, moisture, or broken wires.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure. Disconnect the battery.

  2. Access the Valve Stack

Locate External Hydraulic Valve 1 in the rear SCV stack.

  3. Inspect/Replace Detents (If Applicable)

On 7600 and 7700 series tractors, worn spool valve detents are a common mechanical failure that prevents the spool from centering. While Massey Ferguson often recommends replacing the entire valve, it is possible to source and modify detents for these series to repair the mechanical centering issue.

  4. Remove the Faulty Spool Slice

If the electrical head/slice has failed, disconnect the 4-pin electrical harness. Remove the retaining tie-bolts holding the spool slice to the valve block assembly.

  5. Install the New Valve

Fit the replacement electric spool slice (ensure O-rings are seated correctly to prevent leaks) and torque the retaining bolts to the manufacturer's specification. Reconnect the 4-pin harness.

  6. Programming

A new electric spool slice must be programmed and calibrated to the tractor's Autotronic system using a dealer diagnostic tool.

  7. Test

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the SCV via the cab joystick/fingertip controls. Clear the DTCs from the system.
