Massey Ferguson A.1X.19 – Vehicle Control Module (VCM) or Hydraulic/EHR (Electronic Hitch Relief) Controller: External Hydraulic Valve 1 Issue
Issue description
The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected a fault in the circuit or operation of the first external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). This typically points to an electrical issue such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a loss of communication with the valve's electronic solenoid/actuator.

Check the cause
Check the electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 1 (usually the first remote valve block at the rear of the tractor) for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve for rub points, breaks, or melted insulation that could cause a short to ground or an open circuit.
Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the valve's solenoid coil. Ensure it is not reading as an open circuit (infinite resistance) or a dead short.
Verify that the valve is receiving proper ground and reference voltage when commanded by the cab controls.
Repair steps
Safety First
Turn off the tractor, lower all implements to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Access the Valve
Locate External Hydraulic Valve 1 at the rear remote valve stack.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the valve's solenoid.
Wiring Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or damaged connector, splice in a new pigtail connector or repair the harness using weather-sealed connectors.
Component Replacement
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut/screws holding the solenoid to the valve cartridge. Slide the old solenoid off and install the replacement, torquing the fastener to OEM spec.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness to the valve.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.1X.19 code from the system.
Test
Start the tractor and cycle the Remote 1 lever/button to confirm proper hydraulic function and ensure the code does not return.
Parts you might need
(1)External Hydraulic Valve 1 Solenoid / Electronic Spool Valve Assembly
Exact OEM part numbers for the valve assembly are highly dependent on the specific tractor series and hydraulic pump configuration (e.g., open center vs. closed center load sensing). Look up the exact spool valve or solenoid part number in the AGCO parts catalog using the machine's specific serial number.
