Massey Ferguson A.1X.24 – Mid Mount Valve Module or Hydraulic/Transmission Control Unit: External Hydraulic Valve 1 Issue
Issue description
A malfunction, restriction, or electrical fault associated with the first rear remote auxiliary hydraulic spool valve. It typically means the valve is not responding correctly to commands, is suffering from a pressure/flow issue, or has a spool position sensor/connection fault.

Check the cause
Check the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Flush if dark, smells burnt, or looks milky (water contamination).
Inspect the hydraulic or transmission filter for partial blockages that could restrict flow and throw valve codes.
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connections at External Hydraulic Valve 1. Look for connection problems or damaged wires leading to the spool position sensor or valve solenoids.
Perform a pressure test using a hydraulic gauge at the remote couplers to isolate whether the issue is a weak pump, a failing relief valve, or the spool valve itself.
Visually inspect for external leaks around the valve body, damaged quick couplers, or worn hoses.
Repair steps
Preparation
Clean the front and rear of the external hydraulic valve assembly thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the system.
Disconnect Linkages
Remove the mechanical linkage, lever, or electrical actuator connections from the front of the spool.
Remove Rear Fittings
Unscrew the large pipe/fitting from the rear of the valve. (If it is seized, a 6-point socket and breaker bar are recommended).
Extract the Spool
Pull the pipe and valve spool out through the back of the valve body.
Disassemble Detent Mechanism
Carefully unscrew the slotted plug at the rear (it is spring-loaded). Remove the spring, ball cup, and detent balls using a small magnet.
Inspect and Reseal
Inspect the spool and the actuator tube for scoring or heavy wear. Replace all O-rings, backup washers, and seals using an OEM repair kit.
Reassembly
Reinstall the detent balls, spring, and plug. Slide the spool back into the valve body, reattach the rear pipe, and reconnect the linkages/actuators.
Fluid & Filter
Replace the hydraulic filter and top off the UTTO hydraulic fluid.
Clear Codes
Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic interface tool to clear the 0A.1X.24 code and test the remote valve operation.
