Massey Ferguson A.20.22 – Hydraulic Control Module / Valve Controller: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction in the second external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically a connection problem on the hydraulic valve, an issue with the spool position sensor value, restricted oil flow, or a mechanical failure within the valve itself (such as a stuck spool or failed solenoid).

Check the cause
Check the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition for contamination, and inspect the hydraulic/transmission filter for blockages
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors going to External Hydraulic Valve 2 for corrosion, loose pins, or damaged wires
Use a compatible diagnostic tool to read the live data for the Spool Position Sensor Value to check for erratic or out-of-range readings
Inspect the rear hydraulic quick couplers for physical damage, blockages, or worn seals that could restrict flow
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.
Drain/Catch Fluid
Place a catch pan beneath the rear remote valve block, as hydraulic fluid will leak during removal.
Disconnect Electricals
Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the solenoids and spool position sensor on Valve 2.
Remove Hoses and Couplers
Unbolt and disconnect the hydraulic lines and quick couplers attached to the faulty valve section.
Remove the Valve
Unbolt the External Hydraulic Valve 2 assembly from the main hydraulic lift cover / valve stack.
Install New Components
Install the replacement spool valve or rebuild the existing valve using an OEM repair kit (replacing O-rings, seals, and faulty sensors).
Reassembly
Bolt the valve back into the stack to the manufacturer's torque specifications. Reconnect all hydraulic lines and electrical harnesses.
Fluid and Filter Service
Replace the hydraulic oil filter and top up the system with clean UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil) fluid.
Clear Codes and Test
Connect a diagnostic tool, clear the 0A.20.22 / A.20.22 fault code, and operate the remote valve to ensure proper pressure, flow, and sensor communication.
