Massey Ferguson A.20.24 – Hydraulic Valve Module or Mid Mount Valve Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue
Issue description
Indicates a fault, restriction, or electrical communication error affecting the tractor's second external hydraulic remote/spool valve. It is commonly triggered by a connection problem on the hydraulic valve, a spool valve that is not returning to neutral, or an issue with the spool position sensor value.

Check the cause
Check hydraulic fluid and transmission filters for contamination or blockages
Inspect spool valve detents for rust or seizing that prevents the valve from returning to neutral
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors to External Hydraulic Valve 2 for corroded pins or broken wires
Check external hydraulic quick couplers for damage or blockages that could deadhead hydraulic pressure
Repair steps
Safety First
Lower all implements to the ground, disengage the PTO, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the hydraulic levers before working on the system.
Service the Basics
If the hydraulic fluid is dirty or burnt, drain the system and replace the hydraulic/transmission filters. Refill with OEM-spec hydraulic fluid.
Clean and Lubricate Detents
Access the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor. Inspect the detent mechanisms for Valve 2. If they are rusted, attempt to clean and lubricate them to restore free movement.
Test the Sensor/Solenoid
Clean the electrical contacts on the spool valve position sensor. Reconnect and test.
Replace the Valve Assembly
If the spool valve is completely seized, or if the internal position sensor has failed, the valve must be replaced. Note: For many modern Massey Ferguson tractors, you must replace the complete spool valve assembly as individual internal repair parts are not sold.
Clear Codes
Install the new valve, reconnect the hydraulic lines and wiring, and use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the A.20.24 DTC from the system.
