Massey Ferguson A.20.25 – Mid Mount Valve Module or Dash/ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction within the circuit of the second external hydraulic spool valve (remote valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem, an out-of-range spool position sensor value, or a mechanical issue such as the valve sticking or jamming due to internal wear or contaminated hydraulic fluid.

Check the cause
Inspect the hydraulic fluid level and condition. Check for dirty oil or a blocked hydraulic/transmission filter, which is a leading cause of sticking spool valves.
Visually inspect the external valve body (Spool Valve 2) on the rear hydraulic block for visible leaks or physical damage.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to External Hydraulic Valve 2. Look for corrosion, loose pins, or damaged wires.
Use a compatible diagnostic tool to monitor the spool position sensor value. If the value is erratic or out of range, the sensor or the electric slice itself is faulty.
Manually actuate the spool valve to test if it is mechanically sticking or jamming due to debris.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic levers to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.
Locate the Valve
Identify External Hydraulic Valve 2 on the rear hydraulic control block.
Disconnect Wiring
Carefully disconnect the electrical harness connector from the valve's solenoid and position sensor.
Remove the Valve
Unbolt the spool valve assembly (electric slice) from the hydraulic block. Have a catch pan ready to collect residual hydraulic fluid.
Inspect and Clean
Inspect the valve for internal wear, debris, or damaged O-rings. Clean the valve body thoroughly.
Replace Components
If the valve is mechanically jammed or the electronic position sensor has failed, replace the entire electric spool slice assembly.
Reinstall
Install the new or cleaned valve using new O-rings/seals. Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
Reconnect and Refill
Reconnect the electrical harness and top up the hydraulic fluid to the correct level.
Calibrate and Clear
Start the tractor, test the operation of the remote hydraulics, and check for leaks. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the A.20.25 fault code. Note: New electric spool slices often need to be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's ECU after installation.
