Massey Ferguson A.20.26 – Hydraulic Control Module (EHR): External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

A malfunction or communication failure specifically on External Hydraulic Valve 2 (the second remote spool valve). The valve is either failing to respond to commands, has a spool position sensor value out of range, or is experiencing a connection/electrical problem, resulting in the remote hydraulics becoming slow, weak, or completely dead (defaulting to a neutral lock-out position).

   Inspect the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) for contamination (dirt, water, or metal shavings). A blocked transmission/hydraulic filter is a primary cause of restricted flow to the spool valves.

   Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Valve 2. Look for corrosion, bent pins, or a severed wire, which commonly triggers the 0A.41.FF (connection problem) or 0A.20.26 codes.

   Check the spool position sensor values using a diagnostic tool. If the sensor is reading out of range, the valve will lock out.

   If the tractor uses a hybrid electro-mechanical setup, inspect the spool valve cable for binding, stretching, or snapping.

   Ensure the quick-release couplers are not damaged or blocked, which can cause pressure-related faults.

   Depressurize the System

   Lower all implements to the ground. Turn off the engine and cycle the hydraulic remote levers/buttons to relieve any residual pressure in the system.

   Drain/Catch Fluid

   Place a catch pan under the rear remote valve block. If replacing filters, drain the necessary hydraulic fluid.

   Filter Replacement

   If fluid is contaminated: Remove the hydraulic oil filter housing, replace the filter element, and install a new O-ring.

   Disconnect Valve 2

   Locate External Valve 2 in the rear stack. Disconnect the electrical harness connector (and the spool valve cable, if applicable).

   Remove the Valve

   Unbolt the hydraulic lines connected to Valve 2. Remove the tie-rods/bolts holding the spool valve slice in the stack. Carefully slide the faulty valve out.

   Install New Valve

   Insert the new spool valve slice. Crucial: Always use new O-rings between the valve slices to prevent internal pressure leaks. Torque the stack bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the hydraulic lines, spool valve cable, and electrical harness.

   Refill and Test

   Top up the hydraulic system with OEM-approved UTTO fluid. Start the tractor, allow it to reach operating temperature, and test the remote valve with an implement to ensure the code clears and full pressure/flow is restored.
