A.21.19

Massey Ferguson A.21.19 – Tractor ECU or Transmission/Hydraulic controller: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a malfunction within the second external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve) circuit. This can be triggered by an electrical connection problem at the valve's solenoid, internal fluid leakage/bypass, or a mechanical binding of the spool that prevents it from returning to neutral or shifting properly.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the 4-pin electrical connector and wiring harness leading to the External Hydraulic Valve 2 solenoid for corrosion, frayed wires, or a loose connection.

  2. Look for external fluid leaks around the valve stack, sluggish cylinder response, or unexpected implement drift (which indicates internal bypass).

  3. Perform a spool leakage pressure test: Position the control handle in 'Neutral', connect a hydraulic hand pump to one of the control valve ports, and attempt to pressurize to 2500 psi. If pressure drops, oil is leaking around the spool.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all hydraulic system pressure before servicing.

  2. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical harness from the Valve 2 solenoid.

  3. Removal

Unbolt and remove the external hydraulic valve from the rear valve block/stack.

  4. Disassembly & Inspection

Disassemble the valve. Inspect the spool and the precision-machined bore for deep scoring, wear, or cracked castings.

  5. Clean & Rebuild

If the bore and spool are structurally sound, clean the valve thoroughly to remove any foreign contamination. Rebuild the valve using an OEM spool valve seal kit (replacing all O-rings and elastomeric seals).

  6. Replacement (If Necessary)

If the valve fails the pressure test after cleaning, or if the bore is deeply scored, the entire spool valve assembly must be replaced.

  7. Reinstallation

Install the rebuilt or new valve, torque to OEM specifications, reconnect the 4-pin electrical harness, and test the hydraulic system for proper operation and leak-free performance.
