A.21.1A

Massey Ferguson A.21.1A – Hydraulic control modules: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

A malfunction in the second rear remote hydraulic spool valve, typically triggered by an electrical connection problem on the hydraulic valve, a loss of communication with the valve module, or an out-of-range value from the spool position sensor.

Check the cause

  1. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to retrieve and confirm active DTCs

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 2 for corrosion, backed-out pins, or damaged wires

  3. Monitor the 'Spool Position Sensor Value' for Valve 2 using a diagnostic tool to check if the value changes smoothly or drops out

  4. Verify CAN bus communication between the Dash and the Valve Module

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the hydraulic modules.

  2. Locate Valve 2

Identify External Hydraulic Valve 2 in the rear remote valve stack.

  3. Clean and Re-seat Connectors

Disconnect the electrical plug at the valve actuator/spool position sensor. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely re-seat the connector.

  4. Replace Faulty Components

If the diagnostic tool proved the spool position sensor is dead, or if the valve is mechanically failing/leaking, remove the retaining bolts for Valve 2.

  5. Rebuild or Swap

If the valve is leaking externally, rebuild it using an OEM seal kit. If the electronic actuator or quick-release coupling is damaged, replace the specific component.

  6. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use your diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.21.1A code. Test the hydraulic remote to ensure the fault does not return.
