A.21.25

Massey Ferguson A.21.25 – Tractor ECU / Dash and Mid Mount Valve Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

The tractor's diagnostic system has detected a fault in the circuit, position, or communication of the second external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve).

Check the cause

  1. Check the Spool Valve Cable (if equipped) for looseness, stretching, or failure to return to center.

  2. Inspect electrical connections at the External Hydraulic Valve 2 solenoid and spool position sensor for rub points, corrosion, or open/short circuits.

  3. Check hydraulic fluid and filters to ensure oil is clean and at the correct level, as contamination can cause the valve to stick.

  4. Test the solenoid coil resistance using a multimeter to ensure it hasn't failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

If the issue is a stretched control cable, disconnect the battery to prevent accidental electrical shorts.

  2. Remove cab trim

Remove the interior cab trim necessary to access the base of the hydraulic control levers.

  3. Disconnect worn cable

Disconnect the worn spool valve cable from the control lever.

  4. Route new cable

Route the new cable down to the hydraulic valve assembly at the rear/mid-mount of the tractor, ensuring it does not kink or rest against high-heat sources.

  5. Connect cable

Connect the cable to the spool valve detent/actuator.

  6. Calibrate lever

Calibrate the lever to ensure it returns to the exact neutral position.

  7. Relieve hydraulic pressure

If the issue is a failed electronic spool valve/sensor, relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.

  8. Disconnect electrical harness

Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty Electric Spool Slice (Valve 2).

  9. Unbolt spool slice

Unbolt the spool slice from the hydraulic valve stack (be prepared to catch residual hydraulic fluid).

  10. Install new spool slice

Install the new Electric Spool Slice, ensuring all O-rings are properly seated.

  11. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  12. Program/calibrate spool slice

Important: The new electric spool slice must be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's ECU using a Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool before it will operate correctly.
