A.21.26

Massey Ferguson A.21.26: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Connection problem on the hydraulic valve, a fault with the spool position sensor value, or a failure in the valve's ability to build/direct hydraulic pressure properly.

Check the cause

  1. Check for a connection problem on the hydraulic valve harness, as electrical faults are a primary trigger for the 0A.XX series codes.

  2. Verify the spool position sensor value using a compatible diagnostic tool to ensure the sensor is reading the valve's physical position accurately.

  3. Ensure the tractor's hydraulics are actually set for the external hydraulic circuit rather than being diverted to the three-point hitch.

  4. Verify that the hydraulic belly pump has not failed or become weak, which can mimic valve failure by preventing the external circuit from building pressure.

Repair steps

  1. Confirm DTC

Connect a compatible diagnostic interface device to retrieve and confirm the active 0A.21.26 DTC.

  2. Inspect and repair wiring

Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 2. Clean the connector contacts and repair any frayed wires.

  3. Diagnose spool position sensor

If the electrical connection is sound but the spool position sensor is failing, the sensor or the spool valve assembly must be removed.

  4. Relieve hydraulic pressure

Relieve all hydraulic system pressure before unbolting the valve.

  5. Remove valve assembly

Remove the faulty External Hydraulic Valve 2 / Spool Valve assembly.

  6. Rebuild or replace valve

Either rebuild the valve using an OEM repair kit or replace the entire spool valve assembly with a new unit.

  7. Reinstall and recalibrate

Reinstall the valve, bleed the hydraulic system, and use the diagnostic tool to clear the code and recalibrate the spool position sensor.
