A.21.29

Massey Ferguson A.21.29 – Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a fault with the spool position sensor circuit or a connection problem on the second rear remote hydraulic valve. When triggered, the tractor's safety system will sound a beep, display the code on the dash, and lock all hydraulic valves to prevent unintended movement.

Check the cause

  1. Attempt to clear the error code on the Dash Control Center and unlock the valves to verify if it is a hard failure.

  2. Locate External Hydraulic Valve 2 at the rear remote stack and inspect the 4-pin electrical connector for dirt, corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

  3. Use a multimeter to test the wiring harness leading to Valve 2 for continuity, shorts to ground, or open circuits in the spool position sensor wiring.

  4. Temporarily swap the electrical connector from Valve 1 or Valve 3 to Valve 2 to see if the fault code follows the valve or stays with the wiring harness.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic levers/switches to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure.

  2. Disconnect Wiring

Disconnect the 4-pin electrical harness from External Hydraulic Valve 2.

  3. Harness Repair

If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the connector pigtail.

  4. Valve Replacement

If the sensor/spool is faulty, unbolt the hydraulic lines connected to Valve 2, remove the tie-rod bolts holding the valve stack together, carefully slide out Valve 2 (ensuring you do not lose or damage the O-rings), install the new valve with fresh O-rings, and re-torque the valve stack bolts to OEM specifications.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the 4-pin electrical connector.

  6. Calibration/Reset

Turn the tractor on, clear the error code via the Dash Control Center or a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool, and unlock the valves. Test the remote for proper operation.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Electronic Spool Valve (4-Pin)

    3797234M6

Fits 6400, 6600, 7400, and 7600 series tractors equipped with electronic remotes.

  • Standard/Mechanical Spool Valve Assembly

    1696239M93

Generally applies to older or mechanically-controlled series (e.g., 200, 300 series) and will not resolve an electronic sensor code.

  • Standard/Mechanical Spool Valve Assembly
