A.21.2A

Massey Ferguson A.21.2A – Mid Mount Valve Module or EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Control) module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the second external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve) circuit. This is typically caused by an open circuit or short to ground in the solenoid wiring, an out-of-range or missing signal from the spool position sensor, or a mechanical issue (such as a sticking spool or internal leak) preventing the valve from reaching its commanded position.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Burnt or milky fluid can cause valves to stick.

  2. Inspect the electrical harness connecting to External Valve 2. Look for rub points, damaged wires, or loose connectors.

  3. Test the solenoid connector for proper voltage and check the coil resistance to rule out a short to ground or open circuit.

  4. Use a diagnostic tool to read the live data for the 'Spool Position Sensor Value'. If the value is erratic or missing, the sensor or its wiring is faulty.

  5. Check for external leaks around the spool valve block.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers to relieve all hydraulic system pressure.

  2. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical harness from the Valve 2 solenoid and position sensor.

  3. Access the Valve

Remove the side cover/housing of the external control valve block (typically held by 4 screws).

  4. Disassemble

Carefully extract the spool, noting the orientation of the springs, guides, and O-rings.

  5. Clean and Inspect

Clean the valve body thoroughly. Inspect the spool for scoring or wear.

  6. Rebuild

Install a new spool valve repair kit (new O-rings, seals, and retaining rings).

  7. Replace Electronics

If the electrical tests failed, replace the faulty solenoid coil or position sensor at this stage.

  8. Reassemble

Reinstall the spool, secure the cover, and reconnect the electrical harness.

  9. Clear Codes

Use a diagnostic tool or the dashboard interface to delete the error code and unlock the valve.

  10. Test

Start the tractor, operate the remote, and check for leaks and proper implement response.
