Massey Ferguson A.22.11 – Tractor Onboard Diagnostic System / Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue
Issue description
Indicates a malfunction in the #2 rear remote hydraulic spool valve. This is typically an electronic fault where the diagnostic system detects a connection problem, an out-of-range spool position sensor value, or an inability to actuate the valve solenoid properly, or it can be triggered by severe mechanical sticking/jamming of the spool.

Check the cause
Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition (fluid contamination cause): Contaminated fluid or a blocked transmission/hydraulic filter can cause pressure drops and sluggish spool response, throwing a position error.
Inspect the wiring harness and the 4-pin connector at the #2 Rexroth electric spool valve (electrical fault cause): Look for rubbed wires, corrosion, or a loose connection indicating an open circuit or short to ground.
Check if the valve is physically jammed (mechanical binding cause): Debris in the system can cause the internal spool to stick, preventing the electronic solenoid from moving it.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all residual pressure in the system before wrenching.
Drain/Flush (If Contaminated)
If the hydraulic fluid is burnt or full of debris, drain the system and flush it. Replace the hydraulic filter.
Remove the Valve
Disconnect the 4-pin electrical harness from the #2 external hydraulic valve. Unbolt the valve from the rear remote valve stack.
Clean and Inspect
Disassemble the valve carefully and clean it with a residue-free parts cleaner. Inspect the internal spool for scoring, scratches, or wear. If the spool is heavily scored, the valve cannot be saved.
Replace the Valve
Because Massey Ferguson generally sells these electronic spool valves as complete sealed units, a failed internal position sensor or burnt solenoid usually requires replacing the entire valve assembly.
Reassembly
Install the new spool valve with fresh O-rings/seals. Torque to OEM specifications and reconnect the 4-pin harness.
Refill and Clear Codes
Refill the system with clean, filtered UTTO hydraulic fluid. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.22.11 DTC from the system.
