Massey Ferguson A.22.1E – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) or Auxiliary Valve Controller / Electronic Hitch Control module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Malfunction, communication failure, or electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or current level error) specifically affecting the second auxiliary remote hydraulic spool valve (Valve 2).

   Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO 10W40) level and condition. If the fluid is milky, dark, or smells burnt, or if the filter is clogged, it can cause valve actuation errors.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 2 (rear remote valve stack) for chafed wires causing short circuits to earth or between cables.

   Disconnect the electrical plug at Valve 2 and check for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture ingress.

   Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the solenoid coil on Valve 2 to determine if the coil has failed internally (open circuit).

   Swap the electrical connector from Valve 1 to Valve 2 (if harness length permits) to see if the fault follows the wiring or stays with the physical valve.

   Relieve Pressure

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic remote levers/buttons to relieve all residual system pressure.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

   Address Electrical Faults (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged connector or wiring, splice in a new pigtail connector or replace the damaged section of the harness.

   Replace the Solenoid/Valve

   If the solenoid coil failed the multimeter test, remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve spool and slide the old coil off. Slide the new OEM coil on and torque the nut to spec. If the valve itself is internally bypassing, sticking, or has a failed position sensor, unbolt the Valve 2 slice from the hydraulic valve stack. Install the new proportional valve section, ensuring all O-rings between the valve slices are properly seated and lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid. Torque the tie-rod bolts holding the valve stack together to the manufacturer's specification.

   Reassemble and Bleed

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Top off the hydraulic fluid. Start the tractor and operate the Valve 2 remote to bleed air from the system and check for leaks.

   Clear Codes

   Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the A.22.1E / 0A.22.1E DTC from the TCU.
