A.22.22

Massey Ferguson A.22.22 – Mid Mount Valve Module / Dash/Main Tractor ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a fault within the electronic control of the tractor's auxiliary hydraulic system. Specifically, this flags a connection problem on the hydraulic valve or an issue with the Spool Position Sensor value (often reading out of range, shorted, or disconnected).

Check the cause

  1. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic interface to pull all active DTCs. Verify if the code is isolated to Valve 2 or if multiple valves are failing (indicating a shared ground or CAN-bus communication failure).

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 2. Look for chafed wires, corrosion, or debris inside the connector.

  3. Monitor the live data for the 'Spool Position Sensor Value' on Valve 2 using the diagnostic tool. Actuate the valve switch in the cab and watch for erratic voltage drops or a frozen signal.

  4. Temporarily swap the electrical connector from Valve 2 to Valve 3 (if the valve block allows) to see if the fault code follows the wiring or stays with the physical valve/sensor.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls in the cab to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure before working on the valve block.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the external hydraulic valve block (usually located at the rear remote stack or mid-mount block) to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Reseat Connections

Disconnect the electrical harness at Valve 2. Apply dielectric grease and reconnect it. Clear the codes to see if a simple connection issue was the culprit.

  4. Replace the Sensor/Solenoid

If the spool position sensor is reading out of range and the wiring is intact, remove the retaining bolts on the Valve 2 electronic actuator/sensor cap.

  5. Install New Component

Install the replacement spool position sensor or electronic spool valve control head. Torque the retaining bolts to OEM spec.

  6. Recalibrate

Use the Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.22.22 code and run a hydraulic valve calibration routine so the ECU learns the new spool position sensor's neutral, extend, and retract limits.

Parts you might need

(5)
  • Spool Position Sensor / Valve Actuator

Often integrated into the electronic control head of the specific slice of the valve block.

  • Electric Spool Valve Control Switch

Cab-side component, if the fault is traced to the cab input rather than the rear valve.

  • Mid Mount Valve Module

The control module that interfaces between the dash and the hydraulic valves.

  • Front Axle / Spool Valve Block Sensor

    67549.Q

For models requiring a complete slice replacement.

  • Front Axle / Spool Valve Block Sensor

    7300160101

For models requiring a complete slice replacement.
