A.22.25

Massey Ferguson A.22.25 – Hydraulic Control Module / Main Tractor ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a malfunction within the circuit of the second external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). This is typically triggered by a connection problem on the hydraulic valve or an out-of-range value from the spool position sensor.

Check the cause

  1. Connect a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool/interface to confirm the exact sub-code (e.g., 0A.22.25 vs 0A.23.25) to isolate if it is a sensor value issue or a dead connection.

  2. Locate External Hydraulic Valve 2 at the rear remote stack. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve's solenoid and the spool position sensor. Look for chafed wires, debris, or physical damage.

  3. Disconnect the electrical plug at the valve. Check for bent pins, moisture, or corrosion, which are common causes of connection problem faults.

  4. Test the spool position sensor signal voltage to see if it is returning a value within the specified OEM range.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the rear remotes by moving the manual levers (if applicable) or ensuring the system is depressurized.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around External Hydraulic Valve 2 to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system if the valve needs to be removed.

  3. Repair Wiring/Connectors

If the diagnostic checks revealed corrosion or broken wires, clean the connector pins with contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease, or splice/replace the damaged section of the harness.

  4. Replace Sensor/Valve

If the wiring is intact but the spool position sensor fails testing, replace the sensor. If the sensor is integrated or the valve's internal solenoid has failed, unbolt the External Hydraulic Valve 2 assembly from the remote stack, replace the O-rings between the slices, and install the new spool valve assembly.

  5. Reassembly and Calibration

Torque the valve stack bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  6. Clear Codes

Use the diagnostic interface to clear the 0A.22.25 fault code.

  7. Test Operation

Start the tractor, warm up the hydraulic fluid, and actuate Remote Valve 2 to ensure smooth operation and verify the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • External Hydraulic Valve 2 Assembly / Electronic Spool Valve Slice

Ensure you are ordering the electronic proportional valve slice (not the mechanical slice) specific to the Tier 4 / iT4 generation of your tractor model.

  • Spool Position Sensor

  • Valve Stack O-Ring Kit

  • Electrical Connector Pigtail
