A.23.1A

Massey Ferguson A.23.1A – Main Tractor ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Connection problem on the hydraulic valve or an issue with the spool position sensor value for Valve 2, meaning the system cannot accurately read or control the position of the second remote hydraulic valve.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 2 for frayed wires, corrosion inside the connector, or loose pins.

  2. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to monitor the live data for the Valve 2 spool position sensor. Check if the voltage/value changes smoothly when the valve is commanded or if it reads out of bounds/dead.

  3. Ensure the hydraulic pump is functioning properly and that the system is building adequate pressure, as a weak pump can sometimes cause secondary valve actuation faults.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Valve Block

Locate the external hydraulic valve block (typically at the rear of the tractor, under the cab). Identify Valve 2.

  2. Clean and Re-seat Connectors

Disconnect the electrical plug for Valve 2's actuator and spool position sensor. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and re-seat the connector. Clear the code to see if it returns.

  3. Replace the Sensor/Valve

If the wiring is intact but the spool position sensor value remains erratic or dead, the sensor (or the entire electronic spool valve slice, depending on the exact model's modularity) must be replaced.

  4. Clear DTCs

After the physical repair, use a compatible diagnostic interface device to clear the 0A.23.1A code from the tractor's memory.

  5. Calibration

Calibrate the new hydraulic valve/sensor via the tractor's terminal or diagnostic tool so the ECU learns the new spool end-stops.
