A.23.1E

Massey Ferguson A.23.1E – Hydraulic Valve Module or EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Relief) control module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Fault within the circuit of the second external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem on the hydraulic valve, an open circuit or short to ground in the valve's solenoid circuit, or an implausible reading/issue with the spool position sensor value.

Check the cause

  1. Check the electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 2 (located at the rear remote stack or mid-mount block) for dirt, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve for rub points, pinched wires, or signs of an open circuit or short to ground.

  3. Measure the resistance of the valve's solenoid coil and verify ground integrity using a multimeter.

  4. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to read the live data for the 'Spool Position Sensor Value' and check if the voltage is too low, too high, or missing entirely.

  5. Verify that there is active communication between the dash and the valve module.

Repair steps

  1. Retrieve and Confirm Codes

Connect a compatible diagnostic interface device to the tractor to confirm code A.23.1E is active.

  2. Access the Valve

Locate External Hydraulic Valve 2 at the rear of the tractor. Clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system or electrical connections.

  3. Disconnect and Clean

Unplug the harness from the valve's solenoid and spool position sensor. Apply electrical contact cleaner to both sides of the connection.

  4. Test Components

If the wiring harness is intact but the code persists, test the spool position sensor and the solenoid actuator.

  5. Replace Faulty Component

If the solenoid coil is shorted/open, or if the spool position sensor is returning out-of-range values, replace the faulty sensor or the entire spool valve assembly (depending on whether the sensor is serviceable separately on your specific model).

  6. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect the wiring harness, clear the DTCs using the diagnostic tool, and cycle the hydraulic remote lever to ensure the system operates normally without throwing the code again.
