A.23.1F

Massey Ferguson A.23.1F – Hydraulic Control Module or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the second auxiliary remote hydraulic spool valve circuit. The underlying condition is typically an electronic control failure, such as a connection problem at the valve, an issue with the voltage reaching the solenoid, or an out-of-range value from the spool position sensor.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition, and check for a clogged hydraulic filter

  2. Inspect the electrical harness connecting to External Hydraulic Valve 2 for corroded pins, loose connections, or damaged wires

  3. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to read the live data from the spool position sensor on Valve 2 to verify if the sensor value is erratic or out of range

  4. Test the system pressure at the rear quick couplers with a hydraulic gauge to ensure the pump is delivering adequate pressure (typically above 2200 psi) and that the relief valve is functioning

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all residual pressure in the hydraulic system.

  2. Disconnect Electricals

Disconnect the wiring harness from the External Hydraulic Valve 2 solenoid and spool position sensor.

  3. Clean and Treat Connectors

If corrosion is found, clean the connector pins thoroughly and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect and test to see if the code clears.

  4. Remove the Valve

If the valve solenoid or sensor has failed internally, unbolt the External Hydraulic Valve 2 assembly from the rear remote valve stack. Be prepared to catch leaking hydraulic fluid.

  5. Replace Components

Depending on the exact failure, replace the spool position sensor, the solenoid, or the entire valve slice (such as the Bosch Rexroth SB23 unit used on many AGCO machines).

  6. Reassemble and Bleed

Install the new valve/components, torque to OEM specifications, and reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical harness.

  7. Clear Codes

Top off the UTTO hydraulic fluid, start the tractor, check for leaks, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.23.1F code from the system.
