A.23.26

Massey Ferguson A.23.26 – Hydraulic Valve Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the circuit or mechanical operation of the second external hydraulic remote valve. Typically a connection problem on the hydraulic valve or an issue with the spool position sensor value reading out of the expected range.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 2 (usually located in the rear remote stack or mid-mount valve block) for chafing, cuts, or heat damage.

  2. Connector Check: Disconnect the electrical plug at the valve and the spool position sensor. Check for bent pins, moisture, dirt, or corrosion, which are common causes of "connection problem" faults.

  3. Sensor Value Test: Using a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool, monitor the live data for the Spool Position Sensor on Valve 2. Verify if the voltage changes smoothly as the valve is commanded open and closed.

  4. CAN Bus / Communication Check: Ensure there is proper communication between the Dash and the Valve Module, as communication drops can trigger related spool sensor errors.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Safely park the tractor on level ground, lower all hydraulic implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic levers/joysticks to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure.

  2. Locate Valve 2

Identify External Hydraulic Valve 2 in the remote valve stack (refer to the operator's manual if the sequence is not stamped on the block).

  3. Clean and Re-seat Connections

Thoroughly clean the electrical connector with contact cleaner. Apply dielectric grease and re-seat the connector firmly.

  4. Clear Codes

Turn the key to the ON position and use a diagnostic interface device to clear the DTC. Test the valve operation.

  5. Replace Sensor/Valve (If fault returns)

If the code persists and the wiring is intact, the spool position sensor or the valve solenoid itself has failed internally. Remove the retaining bolts holding the sensor/solenoid cap to the valve body.

  6. Install New Component

Install the replacement sensor or valve section, ensuring O-rings are properly seated and lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid. Torque bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Recalibrate

Use the diagnostic tool to calibrate the new spool position sensor so the ECU learns the new neutral, fully open, and fully closed values.
