Massey Ferguson A.23.2A – Hydraulic Valve Module / Autotronic 5 TECU: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction associated with the second rear remote hydraulic spool valve. The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem, a spool position sensor reading out of range, or a mechanical sticking of the valve preventing it from actuating properly.

Check the cause
Check the solenoid connector on External Valve 2 for harness rub points, open circuits, or a short to ground.
Measure the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter and verify the ground integrity of the valve's wiring harness.
Use a Massey Ferguson-compatible diagnostic tool to read the live data for the Spool Position Sensor Value. Check if the sensor is returning an implausible value or no signal.
Ensure the hydraulic and transmission oil is clean and the filters are not blocked. Contaminated oil is a leading cause of sticky spool valves.
Repair steps
Depressurize and Prep
Lower all implements to the ground, turn off the tractor, and relieve hydraulic system pressure. Disconnect the battery.
Locate and Disconnect
Locate the rear remote valve stack. Disconnect the electrical harness connectors from the External Hydraulic Valve 2 solenoid and position sensor.
Remove the Valve Slice
Unbolt the tie rods that hold the hydraulic spool valve stack together. Carefully separate the stack to remove the faulty Electric Spool Slice.
Rebuild or Replace
If leaking: Rebuild the valve using an OEM spool valve repair kit (replacing all O-rings and seals). If electrically/mechanically failed: Install a complete replacement Electric Spool Slice.
Reassemble
Reassemble the valve stack, ensuring all seals are seated correctly, and torque the tie rods to OEM specifications.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the new valve.
Programming
If a new electric spool slice was installed, it must be programmed/calibrated to the tractor using a dealer diagnostic tool before it will function.
