Massey Ferguson A.2X.20 – Hydraulic Valve Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Malfunction in the circuit of the second external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve), typically indicating an electrical connection problem on the hydraulic valve, a failure of the spool position sensor, or an internal failure of the electric spool slice itself.

   Verify the hydraulic oil level and ensure the hydraulic filters are not clogged, as flow restrictions can cause valve modules to overheat or behave erratically

   Inspect the wiring harness and the 4-pin connector at the External Hydraulic Valve 2 module for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins

   Check if the valve module requires a software update, as software glitches can cause the valve to kick out and throw related codes

   Use a compatible diagnostic tool to check for related sub-codes (e.g., V149, M16, M17, M18, M19) to narrow the issue down to the spool position sensor or a CAN bus communication drop

   Depressurize the System

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the rear hydraulic valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Unplug the 4-pin electrical connector from the faulty External Valve 2 slice. If the spool valve cable is damaged, replace the harness.

   Remove the Valve Slice

   Unbolt the tie rods holding the hydraulic valve stack together. Carefully slide out the faulty electric spool slice (Valve 2).

   Install the New Module

   Insert the replacement electric spool slice into the stack. Ensure all O-rings are seated correctly. Reinstall and torque the tie rods to the manufacturer's specifications.

   Module Programming

   The new electric spool slice must be programmed and designated to the tractor using a dealer diagnostic tool (EDT) so the ECU recognizes which valve it is controlling.

   Testing

   Top off hydraulic fluid if any was lost. Start the tractor, clear the DTCs, and operate the hydraulic remote to ensure proper function and verify the code does not return.
