A.2X.22

Massey Ferguson A.2X.22 – Onboard Diagnostic System / Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

The system is detecting that the electronic spool valve position sensor for the #2 rear remote (or mid-mount valve) is returning a value outside of the expected parameters, or communication with the valve has been lost.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve #2 at the rear of the tractor (or mid-mount) for chafed wires, debris, or physical damage.

  2. Disconnect the electrical plug at the #2 spool valve and check for water ingress, bent pins, or corrosion.

  3. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to read the live data from the Spool Position Sensor for Valve 2, observing if the voltage/position value changes smoothly when commanded.

  4. Attempt to run a hydraulic valve calibration procedure via the tractor's terminal to rule out calibration loss.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Ensure the tractor is off, the implement is lowered to the ground, and hydraulic pressure is relieved from the system before working on the valve block.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the external hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Address Wiring/Connectors

If the diagnostic check revealed a corroded connector, clean the pins with contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. If the wiring is damaged, splice or replace the pigtail harness.

  4. Replace the Sensor/Valve

If the wiring is sound but the spool position sensor is failing, remove the sensor cap on the #2 spool valve. Depending on the specific valve manufacturer, the position sensor may be replaceable independently, or the entire electronic actuator head/spool valve slice may need to be swapped.

  5. Reassemble and Bleed

Install the new sensor or valve slice, torque to OEM specifications, and reconnect the wiring harness.

  6. Recalibrate

Turn on the tractor and use the diagnostic interface or in-cab terminal to perform a mandatory valve calibration so the ECU learns the new spool position sensor's end-stops.

  7. Clear Codes

Clear the A.2X.22 DTC and test the #2 remote with an implement to ensure proper operation.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Electronic Spool Valve Slice (External Hydraulic Valve 2)

Must be matched to the tractor's VIN/Serial via the AGCO parts catalog.

  • Spool Position Sensor / Actuator Head

Often integrated into the electronic control head of the valve slice.

  • Hydraulic Valve Connector Pigtail

Used if the harness connector is corroded.
