A.2X.25

Massey Ferguson A.2X.25 – Hydraulic Control Unit / Tractor ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

A malfunction within the tractor's auxiliary hydraulic system, specifically pointing to a problem with the second external remote spool valve. This can be triggered by an electrical connection problem (such as an open circuit or short), a spool position sensor value error, or a mechanical failure preventing the valve from operating correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Fluid and Filter Check: Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level using the dipstick. Inspect the fluid condition; if it is dark, smells burnt, or looks milky (water contamination), it must be changed. Ensure the hydraulic filter is not clogged, as restricted flow can cause system pressure issues.

  2. Visual Inspection for Leaks: Check External Valve 2 and its quick couplers for external leaks, which can rob the system of pressure.

  3. Electrical Circuit Testing: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Valve 2 solenoid and spool position sensor. Look for rub points, open circuits, or shorts to ground/power.

  4. Solenoid and Sensor Check: Test the solenoid connector and coil resistance. Verify the spool position sensor is returning a plausible value to the ECU.

  5. Mechanical Binding: Check if the valve spool is physically sticking due to contamination or internal wear.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all hydraulic implements to the ground to relieve system pressure, and turn off the engine.

  2. Resolve Electrical Faults

If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair or replace the damaged section of the harness or the connector at Valve 2.

  3. Clean or Replace the Valve

If the valve is mechanically stuck or the internal solenoids/sensors have failed, remove the affected auxiliary valve section. Many Massey Ferguson models utilize Bosch Rexroth SB23 auxiliary remote spool valves, which are known to require specialized repair or complete replacement when they fail.

  4. System Maintenance

If the fluid was contaminated, drain the hydraulic fluid (often shared with the transmission/differential) and replace the hydraulic filter. Refill with fresh, OEM-approved UTTO fluid.

  5. Clear Codes and Calibrate

Use a compatible diagnostic tool (such as the dealer Wintest software) to clear the 0A.2X.25 fault code from the dashboard/ECU. If a new valve or position sensor was installed, perform a valve calibration procedure via the diagnostic interface to ensure the ECU recognizes the new component's parameters.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • External Hydraulic Auxiliary Valve

    Bosch Rexroth SB23

Commonly fitted OEM valve on many MF models; exact AGCO part number depends on the specific tractor series.

  • Hydraulic Filter Element

    MANN-FILTER HD 509/2 x

Generic part name 'Hydraulic Filter Element' or AGCO OEM equivalent.

  • Universal Tractor Transmission Oil (UTTO)

Grade 15W40 or 10W40 (e.g., Shell Harvella, BP Supertou, or AGCO equivalent).

  • Spool Position Sensor / Valve Solenoid

Usually serviced as part of the valve block assembly or available via AGCO parts catalog depending on the valve generation.
