A.2X.26

Massey Ferguson A.2X.26 – Dash / Mid Mount Valve Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a fault within the second external hydraulic remote circuit, typically flagged as a connection problem on a hydraulic valve or an issue with the spool position sensor value. The system is either losing electrical communication with the valve or the sensor tracking the physical position of the hydraulic spool is returning an out-of-range or erratic value.

Check the cause

  1. Locate External Hydraulic Valve 2 (usually the second slice in the rear remote valve stack or mid-mount valve block) and inspect the wiring harness for chafing, cuts, or pinch points.

  2. Disconnect the electrical plug at the spool valve and check for bent pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress.

  3. Check the sensor mounted on the end of the spool to ensure it is securely fastened and not physically damaged.

  4. Use a multimeter to test the wiring continuity from the valve module connector back to the Dash/ECU to rule out a broken wire.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around External Hydraulic Valve 2 to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Address Wiring/Connectors

If the diagnostic checks revealed corrosion, clean the connector pins with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. If the harness is damaged, splice and heat-shrink the affected wires or replace the harness section.

  4. Replace the Spool Position Sensor

If the wiring is intact, the spool position sensor has likely failed. Unbolt the sensor cap from the rear of the valve slice, carefully remove the old sensor, and install the new one.

  5. Replace the Valve Slice

If the sensor is integrated or the internal spool is binding/damaged, the entire Valve 2 slice may need to be replaced. Relieve hydraulic pressure, unbolt the tie-rods holding the valve stack together, remove slice #2, insert the replacement, and torque the tie-rods to OEM specifications.

  6. Reassemble and Calibrate

Reconnect the battery. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.2X.26 code. You may need to run a hydraulic valve calibration routine via the tractor's terminal so the ECU can learn the new spool position sensor values.
