   Check Hydraulic Oil: Inspect the oil level and condition. Look for dirty oil, milky oil (water contamination), a burnt smell, or metal particles.

   Inspect Filters: A blocked hydraulic or transmission filter can restrict flow and cause spool valve errors.

   Inspect Couplers and Hoses: Check for blocked couplers or damaged hoses that could be deadheading the hydraulic circuit.

   Check Spool Valve Detents: Physically check the spool valve levers. On many Massey Ferguson models, the spool valve detents have a habit of rusting up and seizing, making it impossible for the valve to move correctly.

   Electrical Connections: Inspect the wiring harness and connector at External Hydraulic Valve 2 and its spool position sensor for corrosion, damage, or loose connections.

   Make the Tractor Safe

   Lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure before working on the system.

   Service the Fluids

   If the hydraulic oil is contaminated or the filter is blocked, drain the oil and replace the hydraulic/transmission filters.

   Address Electrical Faults

   If the wiring to the spool position sensor is damaged, repair the harness. Clean the connector pins with contact cleaner and reseat the connection.

   Free or Replace the Valve

   If the spool valve detents are rusted/seized, attempt to clean and free them. If they are heavily corroded or if the valve has internal pressure leaks (e.g., worn seals or scored cylinders), the complete external hydraulic valve assembly will need to be replaced.

   Clear Codes

   Once the repair is complete, use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool or interface device to clear the DTCs from the system.
