Massey Ferguson A.30.13 – Hydraulic Control Module or Tractor Control Unit (TCU): External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction in the circuit or mechanical operation of the third rear remote hydraulic spool valve. The onboard diagnostic system flags this code when it detects an electrical anomaly (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power in the solenoid circuit) or when the valve fails to respond correctly to the operator's joystick/lever inputs, resulting in weak spool valve performance, slow implement response, or a completely disabled remote.

Check the cause
Inspect the electrical connector at the Valve 3 solenoid for corrosion, dirt, or pushed-out pins.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear remote stack for rub points, melted insulation, or breaks.
Measure the coil resistance of the Valve 3 solenoid and verify ground integrity using a multimeter, comparing readings to a known good valve (e.g., Valve 1 or 2).
Check for physical leaks around the spool valve poppets and O-rings, and ensure hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and the filter is not restricted.
Monitor the voltage and position sensor data for Valve 3 using a diagnostic tool while actuating the joystick to check for signal dropouts.
Repair steps
Make the Machine Safe
Park the tractor on level ground, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic joysticks/levers to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.
Access the Valve Stack
Locate the rear remote valve block. Identify Valve 3 (usually the third slice in the stack).
Disconnect Electricals
Unplug the wiring harness connector from the Valve 3 solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid Coil
Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem and slide the electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge. If only the coil tested bad, slide a new coil on, tighten the nut, and reconnect the harness.
Remove the Valve Cartridge
If the valve itself is mechanically stuck or leaking, unscrew the valve cartridge from the main valve body. Have a catch pan ready for hydraulic fluid.
Replace Seals or Cartridge
Inspect the cartridge. If rebuilding, replace the O-rings and backup rings using a spool valve seal kit. If the cartridge is scored or internally damaged, replace the entire cartridge assembly.
Reassembly
Thread the new or rebuilt cartridge back into the valve body and torque to OEM specifications. Slide the solenoid coil back over the stem and secure it.
Test and Clear Codes
Reconnect the wiring harness. Start the tractor, operate Valve 3 to bleed any trapped air, and check for leaks. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the A.30.13 fault code from the system.
