A.30.1A

Massey Ferguson A.30.1A – Autotronic 5 (AUTO5) ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the electrohydraulic spool valve number 3 (the third remote valve). The underlying condition is typically a connection problem to the hydraulic valve, a faulty spool position sensor, a failed solenoid, or a mechanical failure within the valve itself preventing it from moving to the commanded position.

Check the cause

  1. Perform a visual LED check on the electronic valve itself (solid red indicates receiving power, green indicates receiving input to move, flashing indicates an internal fault)

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to Spool Valve 3 for connection problems, damaged wires, or corroded pins

  3. Check onboard diagnostics for sub-codes via the dash (turn the key on, push the clutch in and release to clear the right screen, then hold down the up arrow key to access the Autotronic diagnostic menu)

  4. Use Massey Ferguson Wintest diagnostic software to read the spool position sensor values and test the active/requested values of the solenoids

Repair steps

  1. Clear Debris and Inspect

Clean the area around the rear remote valves. Ensure the external linkage is not physically binding and that the valves are resting in the center position.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks reveal a short or open circuit, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the connector plug.

  3. Replace Detents

On certain models (like the 7600 series), remove the valve end plate and swap the detent mechanism.

  4. Replace the Valve

If the internal spool position sensor or the main electrohydraulic unit has failed, replace the complete electrohydraulic spool valve assembly.

  5. Recalibrate

After replacing the valve or its components, use the Wintest software to clear the stored AUTO5 error codes and recalibrate the hydraulic system so the ECU learns the new valve's center and end-stop positions.

Parts you might need

(5)
  • Electrohydraulic Spool Valve Assembly

OEM replacement required if the internal sensor or main block fails.

  • Spool Valve Detent Kit

Available for 7600 series tractors as a cost-effective alternative to replacing the whole valve.

  • Hydraulic Valve End Plate

    3796108M1

Fitment: Various MF models, often replaced if damaged during detent repair.

  • Hydraulic Valve End Plate

    3796107M1

Fitment: Various MF models, often replaced if damaged during detent repair.

  • Valve Block Housing (Empty)

    3816529M93

Fitment: 4200 and 4300 series, listed as a reference for MF hydraulic block components.
