A.30.24

Massey Ferguson A.30.24 – Vehicle Control Module (VCM) or Hydraulic Control Unit: External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction, electrical fault, or performance irregularity in the third external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve 3) circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to confirm the code and check for any secondary codes related to hydraulic pressure or electrical voltage.

  2. Verify the tractor's hydraulic fluid level and condition. Low or contaminated fluid can cause valve actuation issues.

  3. Inspect the physical External Valve 3 block (usually located at the rear remote stack) and the quick couplers for visible leaks, blown O-rings, or physical damage.

  4. Inspect the electrical wiring harness and connector leading to the Valve 3 solenoid/actuator. Look for corrosion, loose pins, or damaged wires that could cause an open or short circuit.

  5. Test the hydraulic pressure at the #3 remote outlets to determine if the valve is mechanically failing to open/close when commanded by the cab controls.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Lower all attached implements to the ground. Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve all residual hydraulic system pressure.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the external hydraulic valve stack to prevent dirt and debris from entering the hydraulic system during removal.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the External Valve 3 solenoid.

  4. Disconnect Lines

Disconnect the hydraulic hoses/lines attached to the valve. Cap or plug the lines immediately to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  5. Remove the Valve

Unbolt the External Valve 3 assembly from the hydraulic valve stack or lift cover mounting bracket.

  6. Rebuild or Replace

Depending on the diagnosis, either rebuild the valve using an OEM spool valve repair kit (replacing internal O-rings and seals) or replace the entire spool valve assembly.

  7. Reinstall

Install the repaired or new valve. Ensure all mating O-rings (between the valve and the manifold) are new and seated correctly. Torque mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  8. Reconnect

Reattach the hydraulic lines and plug the electrical connector back into the solenoid.

  9. Bleed and Test

Top off the hydraulic fluid. Start the tractor and cycle Valve 3 multiple times to bleed air from the system. Check for leaks around the valve block.

  10. Clear Codes

Use the diagnostic tool to clear the A.30.24 fault code from the system.

Parts you might need
