Check the cause

  1. Perform a diagnostic scan with a compatible tool (e.g., AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to read secondary sub-codes indicating a short, open circuit, or mechanical fault

  2. Verify the input signal by checking that the in-cab joystick or button for Spool Valve 3 is functioning correctly and sending the proper signal

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the Spool Valve 3 solenoid on the rear hydraulic block for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins

  4. Test the solenoid on External Valve 3 for proper resistance and ensure it receives voltage when commanded to open or close

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Relieve all hydraulic pressure from the external auxiliary circuits.

  3. Address Electrical Faults

If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair or replace the damaged section of the harness or the connector.

  4. Replace Solenoid/Valve

If the solenoid fails the resistance test, replace the solenoid coil. If the spool valve is internally seized or mechanically failing, unbolt the hydraulic lines (noting their positions) and remove the Spool Valve 3 assembly from the hydraulic block. Install the new spool valve assembly and torque to OEM specifications.

  5. Reassemble and Test

Reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical connectors. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes

Use the diagnostic tool to clear the A.31.1E fault code from the system.

  7. Operational Test

Start the tractor and test the operation of External Hydraulic Valve 3 with an implement to ensure smooth operation and no leaks.
