A.31.26

Massey Ferguson A.31.26: External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction or performance issue with the third external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve), typically related to an electrical connection problem on the hydraulic valve, a sticky valve, or a pressure-related fault.

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness and electrical connector going to External Hydraulic Valve 3 for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires

  2. Check the hydraulic fluid dipstick to ensure the oil level is correct

  3. Inspect the oil for contamination and check for blocked hydraulic filters, which can cause poor spool performance

  4. Inspect the remote couplers, hoses, and the valve block itself for external leaks or damaged O-rings

  5. Ensure the control handle/linkage is not physically blocked or sticking

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure, and turn off the engine.

  2. Resolve Electrical Faults

If the diagnostic check revealed a wiring issue, repair the damaged wire or replace the connector plug to Solenoid Valve 3.

  3. Service the Hydraulics

If the oil is contaminated or filters are blocked, drain the hydraulic fluid, replace the hydraulic filter, and refill with the correct OEM-specified hydraulic fluid.

  4. Valve/Solenoid Replacement

If the electrical supply is good but the valve fails to operate (internal failure or sticky spool), remove the hydraulic lines connected to Valve 3. Unbolt the faulty solenoid or the entire external hydraulic valve section.

  5. Install New Parts

Install the replacement valve or solenoid. Replace any disturbed O-rings to prevent internal pressure loss.

  6. Test

Reconnect all hoses and wiring. Start the tractor, operate the remote valve to bleed any air from the system, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the A.31.26 fault code.
