Massey Ferguson A.31.29 – Hydraulic and implement control module: External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue

Malfunction within the third rear hydraulic remote (spool valve 3). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem at the valve's solenoid, an internal hydraulic pressure loss, or a mechanical failure within the valve itself (such as worn seals or a stuck spool).

   Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector plugging into the 3rd external hydraulic valve for corrosion, frayed wires, or loose pins.

   Verify that the tractor's hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and that the hydraulic filters are not clogged.

   Perform a leak down test to check for internal hydraulic pressure loss. If an implement attached to the 3rd valve drops overnight or settles quickly, it points to internal pressure escaping past worn seals, damaged O-rings, or a faulty check valve.

   Inspect the rear remote stack for any visible weeping or external oil leaks around the 3rd valve block.

   Relieve Pressure

   Lower all attached implements to the ground and turn off the tractor engine to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Locate the 3rd external hydraulic valve on the rear remote stack. Carefully disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the valve's solenoid.

   Remove the Valve

   Unbolt the 3rd spool valve from the hydraulic lift cover or valve block assembly. Have a catch pan ready to collect residual hydraulic fluid.

   Inspect and Rebuild/Replace

   Inspect the valve body for internal scoring. If the valve body is in good condition, remove the old O-rings and seals and rebuild the valve using an OEM repair kit. If the solenoid has failed electrically or the valve is heavily scored, replace the entire spool valve assembly.

   Reinstallation

   Install the rebuilt or new valve back onto the stack. Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Test and Clear Codes

   Top up the hydraulic fluid. Start the tractor, cycle the 3rd remote to bleed any air from the system, and check for leaks. Finally, use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the A.31.29 fault code from the system.
