Massey Ferguson A.32.23 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) or Hydraulic/Implement Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction in the third auxiliary/remote hydraulic valve circuit. The underlying condition is typically an electrical fault (such as a short, open circuit, or faulty solenoid), erratic hydraulic pressure, or a mechanical sticking issue within the valve spool that prevents it from operating correctly.

Check the cause
Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition. Contaminated fluid (dirt or metal shavings) can cause valves to stick or operate erratically.
Inspect External Valve 3 for any visible hydraulic fluid leaks around the valve body, seals, or couplers.
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector going to the Valve 3 solenoid. Look for frayed wires, corrosion, or loose connections. Test the solenoid for proper voltage and resistance.
Swap the electrical connector from Valve 3 to another working valve (like Valve 2). If the fault code changes to the other valve, the issue is in the wiring or ECU. If the fault remains on Valve 3, the valve itself is faulty.
Check the hydraulic system pressure to ensure the pump is delivering adequate flow and that the pressure relief valve is not stuck open.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all attached implements to the ground, and turn off the engine.
Relieve Pressure
Cycle the hydraulic remote controls to relieve any residual pressure in the system.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the external hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.
Disconnect Electricals
Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the Valve 3 solenoid.
Remove Hoses
Disconnect the hydraulic lines/hoses attached to the valve. Cap or plug the lines immediately to minimize fluid loss and prevent contamination.
Remove the Valve
Unbolt the mounting hardware securing External Valve 3 to the valve stack or lift cover, and carefully remove the valve.
Install New Valve
Install the replacement valve, ensuring that all new O-rings and seals are properly seated.
Reassembly
Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical harness.
Fluid and Filter
If the fluid was contaminated, drain the system, replace the hydraulic filter, and refill with fresh UTTO fluid.
Testing
Start the tractor, check for leaks around the new valve, and test the operation of the remote. Clear the A.32.23 fault code from the system.
