A.32.28

Massey Ferguson A.32.28 – Hydraulic Control Unit or Transmission/Chassis Controller: External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the circuit or mechanical operation of the third external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The system has detected a signal out of range, an open/short circuit in the solenoid wiring, or a mechanical condition where the valve position does not match the commanded position.

Check the cause

  1. Check the solenoid connector on Valve 3 for dirt, moisture, or corrosion

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve for rub points, open circuits, or shorts to ground/power

  3. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the Valve 3 solenoid coil and compare it to a known good valve (like Valve 1 or 2)

  4. Verify that the ground connection for the hydraulic valve block is clean and tight

  5. Ensure hydraulic fluid levels are correct and filters are not restricted, as low pilot pressure can trigger valve position errors

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Valve

Identify External Hydraulic Valve 3 in the rear remote valve stack.

  2. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrical spikes.

  3. Electrical Testing & Cleaning

Disconnect the electrical plug at the solenoid. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the wiring was rubbed through, repair the harness.

  4. Solenoid Replacement

If the multimeter test showed a bad coil, unbolt the solenoid from the spool valve slice and replace it with a new unit.

  5. Valve Slice Replacement

If the electrical circuit is perfectly intact, the spool itself may be sticking or the internal position sensor has failed. In this case, the specific electric spool slice (valve assembly) must be unbolted from the hydraulic stack and replaced.

  6. Reassembly & Calibration

Install the new parts, reconnect the battery, and use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the DTC. Note: If a complete electric spool slice is replaced, it may need to be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's ECU.
