Massey Ferguson A.33.19 – Vehicle Control Module (VCM) or Tractor Control Unit (TCU): External Hydraulic Valve 3 Issue
Issue description
This code indicates a malfunction with the third rear remote hydraulic spool valve. The underlying condition is typically an electrical fault, such as a connection problem, a short/open circuit in the wiring harness, or a failure of the valve's electronic solenoid.

Check the cause
Inspect the electrical connection at External Hydraulic Valve 3 for bent pins, moisture, or corrosion.
Check the wiring harness leading to the valve for continuity, chafing, breaks, or exposed wires causing a short to ground.
Test the solenoid coil resistance on Valve 3 using a multimeter and verify it receives correct voltage from the ECU when actuated.
Check hydraulic fluid level and filters, as contaminated fluid can cause the spool valve to bind mechanically.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Lower all hydraulic implements to the ground. Turn off the tractor engine and cycle the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve any residual pressure in the system.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack to prevent dirt and debris from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.
Disconnect Electronics
Unplug the electrical connector from External Hydraulic Valve 3.
Remove the Valve
Unbolt the mounting hardware securing Valve 3 to the hydraulic manifold/lift cover block. Carefully separate the valve from the stack.
Rebuild or Replace
If rebuilding: Remove the old O-rings and seals. Clean the spool and valve body, then install an OEM spool valve repair kit. If replacing: Prepare the new spool valve assembly.
Reinstallation
Install the new O-rings between the valve and the manifold. Bolt the valve back into the stack and torque the bolts to OEM specifications.
Reconnect and Test
Reconnect the electrical harness. Start the tractor, top off the hydraulic fluid if necessary, and check for leaks.
Clear the Code
Use a compatible diagnostic interface tool to clear the 0A.33.19 code from the ECU and verify that the remote valve operates correctly.
